For Boomers, By Boomers.
February 12th, 2008 by caseyDon’t take this the wrong way. Wait, take it however you want.
It’s time the GD Baby Boomers stop pretending to be experts about everything. Sure, you’ve had a great run, but really, stop pushing your crap onto the rest of us. One of my fellow bloggers, misterarthur, sent over a link to some YouTube content Hillary Clinton recently released.
I mean, seriously, isn’t it absurd that our country (and world) is still so disjointed? Someone thought this would be a cool way to excite youth. I bet they even linked to it from their MySpace site, yeah! Also probably worth noting, our friends at Camp Hillary have chosen to only display approved comments; so don’t let all those positives fool you. Looks like they stopped monitoring this gem a week ago as all comments have ceased since then. I’m a friggin liberal and this stuff makes me want to crawl under my desk and hide. Cmon Hillary, you can do better than this — and if you can’t, for god’s sake employ some young folks who are representative of the voters Obama is now more than ever likely to win.
So, in honor of this junk, what are some other youth-focused bad ideas from our friends @ the greatest generation in American History?
Here’s a few of my faves:
-
1. Dell’s answer to Apple - green laptops and a big green snake. Barf.
2. Trojan’s evolve site - nothing says youth like Pleasure St., right? Puke.
3. Sony’s 2006 PSP “viral rap video” - hey let’s hire some guys in their 30’s to rap about wanting their parents to buy them a PSP. Bet they love’d all the “get a Wii, they are better” comments they got.
If you were at all intrigued by this post, be sure to check out Angus Gastle’s blog “The Bottom Rung”. Smart, honest, hard-hitting writing on the crap marketers dump on youth.
Later.

Casey,
Thanks for the shout out. I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
It’s great to see I’m not the only one pissed off by what is passed off as youth oriented advertising.
I did a little more reading and you have a quality site here. I’ll be adding this site to my feed reader for sure.
Cheers,
Angus

The Dell Lounge - looks great, but I have resources elsewhere for everything offered here, and I bet most young people do too.
As far as the political scene goes, imho the Boomers had two back-to-back 2 term Presidents. Time for them to step aside and realize no one but them cares about the 50s or 60s anymore.

The Dell ad didn’t bother me. I don’t know if that means I’m too old or too young.
The Hillary ad honestly made me think it was an SNL sketch. Ouch.
Thanks for the Angus link…I’ve bookmarked it.
