Advertising might just save the world.

Aren’t we all sick of hearing people’s constant gripe about the intrusiveness of advertising in their lives? Haven’t we all wished we could create something more tangible than just make ads?

How about creating a business model completely around advertising? (Google does it, but then that’s ‘content’.)

Welcome to Blyk. It is a free mobile phone service launched in UK and is entirely funded by advertising. No phone bills. No contracts. Users will receive up to 6 commercial messages a day and in turn are given 43 minutes of talk and 217 texts (yup, no kidding) free each month.

Blyk has reached its 1-yr target just seven months after launch and is aiming to reach the 1million mark within 3 years. Now who said advertising is a cost center?

Udayan, I know you love your mobile, but saving the world?

  2. Bob M says,

Sounds like the same model used by free TV and radio…the very ones who get the heat about intrusive ads
